Here is a selection of images of different mammal species - both wild and captive.
Even within the British Isles there are a diverse range of mammal species - from tiny shrews to enormous fin whales.
Each of these presents it's own problem when trying to capture an image of them. Even commonly seen animals, such as the grey squirrel or the fox can be tricky to get new and interesting shots of.
I have to confess that not all of these images are of wild species. Even though, in some cases, I find the conditions in some zoos quite apalling - it has to be said that they are great places to capture images of rare and exotic species. Zoos present the imager with other problems such as shooting through glass of through bars.
'Cold, delicately as the dark snow, A fox's nose touches twig, leaf; Two eyes serve movement, that now And again now, and now, and now Set neat prints into the snow...'
- Ted Hughes (excerpt from 'The Though Fox')
