Although my passion for imaging stems from a still photography background I also love filmmaking. A single still image can be extremely powerfull, but the ability to tell a story and show certain behaviours and interactions makes film an extremely usefull and enjoyable medium with which to capture images.
'Orkneyjar - The Seal Islands'
The largest project I have completed to date is entitled 'Orkneyjar - The Seal Islands'. It documents the wildlife and landscape of the ruggedly beautiful Orkney Islands.
It involved a number of techniques such as telephoto/macro and underwater videography. This project was a completely solo effort during which I traveled to Orkney for just over a month with my bicycle and a trailer full of video/underwater/camping/surfing gear. My time was spent island hopping too numerous different locations throughout these beautiful islands and capturing as many interesting and visually arresting shots as possible.
I also flew to the most remote of the Orkney Islands, North Ronaldsay, allowing me to capture an aerial perspective of the rugged coastline and the (perhaps suprisingly) azure waters.
Most of the filmmaking projects that I have completed to date are based around biological or natural history subject matter. Although I have completed a few rock climbing projects and am developing an idea for a fim documenting bouldering in Scotland and possibly the wider UK.
